1850 Hillside Blend, 1850 Wine Cellars

We have had this wine a couple of times and it is always very good. It made me curious about it so I did a bit of research. 1850 Wine Cellars is a winery in Placerville, CA. This particular blend is not currently available at the winery- they also have Petite Sirah, Zinfandel and others. Average bottle price starts about $20.00. The name harkens to CA gold rush history and all the glory of the Wild West.

Cellar Tracker shows the vintage 2017. Although the label does not list the blend, Klinker Brick also has a 1850 with Cabernet Sauvignon, Old Vine Zinfandel and Petite Sirah.

On the nose, hints of cherry and other bright red fruits. As it breathes, characteristics of chocolate, smoke and pepper come out. Features medium tanins and the finish is clean. 13.5% AC.

It pairs well with anything you have- cheese, crackers, pasta and steak. This is an easy to drink wine. I found it during a lot sale at a local store and kept a couple to age.

Blends are one of my favorite varietals. It gives wine makers a chance to play and try new ideas with their crops. See if you can find a bottle and if you do, let me know what you think!
