What is in a label?

Have you ever find wine labels confusing? Me too! There can be alot of information on there and if you don’t what you are looking at or why, it just become gibberish. Before you think I just woke up with this knowledge, I didn’t.

A self-professed wine nerd, I read up on this kind of thing (resource to come in another blog post) and then share it with you! Wines can be labeled in several ways. By Variety (Chianti, etc), by region (in this case, Massif D’ Uchaux is part of the Cote Du Rhone appellation area- had to look that one up) or by name (The Body Slammer, ie). The top of this label states it is a great wine of Cotes du Rhone or Coasts of the Rhine.

Under the noted area of the Cotes du Rhone Villages is the disclaimer “Protected designation of origin”. France, and many other countries, have very strict rules about what certain labels must say according to what is in the bottle. Same thing with olive oil from Italy, etc etc. Lastly, this label tells me it is specifically from the Beaumefort Estate, a French Chateau in the Rhone-Alpes region.

I am a huge fan of the region and its wines. Some can get outrageously expensive due to rarity, the house it comes from, etc. Find them and enjoy them! Cheers!
